vision for the baptiste sanctuary at wheeler springs

At Baptiste Sanctuary at Wheeler Hot Springs people return to nature to rediscover themselves and experience transformation of body, mind and spirit in a spectacular nature setting designed to foster personal and professional restoration and growth.  People will participate in engaging dialogue, meditation and yoga workshops and explore the natural wilderness through adventure activities in the Los Padres National Forest and soak away the stresses of life in the hot and cold geothermal water soaking pools. The gathering spaces and structures will serve as home base for one to six-day programs, summits, immersions and gatherings.

vision for design ethos

The architecture will be subservient to the natural landscape and created from a philosophy of innovation, cultural enrichment and environmental conservation. We will utilize permanent and possibly semi-permanent structures (permanent foundations with moveable covers/roofs/walls.)

The main structures and gathering spaces, “The Village” part of the property will be more dense with the Bath House and Main House with Course Room and organized near the swimming pool and cold and hot thermal pools; which allows the remaining acres to be more open space for natural landscape to thrive and support low impact in wildlife-sensitive areas. Building designs will meet recognized environmental standards, and with energy conservation guidelines in mind.

There is the opportunity to showcase the abundant landscape, vibrant plant and water systems and a focus on gracefully integrating ecological technologies to the restoration of lush gardens, mini fruit tree orchards, geothermal water soaking pools, artistic water features and dedicated spaces for sports activities and fun recreation.

The Baptiste Sanctuary will be designed to have minimal impact on the natural landscape, simple indoor/outdoor structures that minimize project costs,

minimize the construction period, and maximize satisfaction to contributors, donors and investors and with a focus to satisfy all who contribute.

We believe that the property location in Ojai, California combined with its proximity to the Pacific Ocean and how the property line meets the Los Padre National Forest--equal parts vibrant wilderness,  natural geothermal wonder and Native American legend, is easily one of the most magical places on earth.  Anyone who makes the drive up the scenic Maricopa Highway to the Baptiste Sanctuary at Wheeler Hot Springs quickly comes to understand the allure of this iconic transformational destination.
